Three
Top Judges for MovieFest 2003
The organisers of MovieFest
2003 have appointed three people with special expertise to judge entries
for this years MovieFest.
They are actress Miranda Harcourt, columnist Rosemary McLeod and Lord
of the Ring company, Weta Digital. The three judges will select the
finalists, which will be announced at the Digital Expo in Wellington
on 27 September.
A decision has also been made on the subject to be covered by entrants
in the MovieFest. It is Travel, "The Journey".
This subject, Travel, has been chosen has been chosen because films
which are largely or solely themed in this way are not typically required
to be labelled/classified. However, films which contain material likely
to require restrictions will not be accepted. If any entrants are
uncertain about any material they wish to use, they can visit the
Censors website to familiarise themselves with what material
is likely to require restrictions, the address is: <http://www.censorship.govt.nz>.

Appearances
at MovieFest Confirmed
A representative
from Weta Digital, the company that produced the special effects
for the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy as well as Sir William Southgate,
a noted orchestral composer and conductor, have confirmed that they
will be making presentations at the MovieFest 2003 Awards Ceremony
to be held in Te Papa's Soundings Theatre on 27 September 2003.
New
Mac User Groups formed in South Island
At a meeting held in the
Christchurch College of Educations Nelson Campus on Thursday 5 June
2003, forty five Mac users heard Graeme Moffatt, president of the
Macintosh User Groups in New Zealand organisation, demonstrate digital
video editing with Final Cut Express. Following this address, many
of those present paid an initial subscription and so formed a new
Macintosh user group.
The following evening saw fifteen Mac users meet in the Takaka Community
Centre and form the second new group within two days.The new groups
are the second and third groups formed recently and are a welcome
addition to the growing number of Mac user groups in New Zealand.
New
Auckland Macintosh User Group formed
At a meeting held in Renaissance
New Zealands Chat Cafe on Wednesday 21 May 2003, fifteen of those
present formed a new Macintosh User Group in Auckland. It has been
around three years since New Zealand's largest city has had a Mac
user group presence and the new group is a welcome addition to the
growing number of Mac groups in New Zealand.
The first members to join were two members of WelMac and one, Mario
Leonti has the distinction of being member No. 1 in two Mac User groups,
the other one being Palmerston North where is is currently patron.
John Laurie, one of our long time members who added to the swelling
population of Auckland a few years ago, has accepted the task of guiding
the fledgling group during its first few months.

Mac
Basics Meetings
We have
now introduced a Basics meeting and are for members to come along
for one-on-one assistance in solving any problem they may be experiencing
with their Mac. This includes both software and hardware problems.
We will have experienced users on hand to assist and will on occassions
have specific topics that we will cover. Check on this web site regularly
for details.
These meetings
will be held in Room 3 of the Johnsonviille Community Centre
on the Thursday following our regular monthly meeting.
Apple
User Group Regional Liaison team
The latest Apple User
Group Regional Liaison team has been announced by Apple Computer
Inc. on Saturday 17 May 2003. The Regional Liaison program was
developed to facilitate communication between Apple, individual
user groups, and the larger user group community. Now in its third
year, the program has led to new friendships and increased visibility
for groups and members. We are happy to welcome the new additions
to our outstanding team of user group volunteers, and to welcome
back those who continue to serve.

Ikonboard Forums now available to Public
Two more
forums have been added to the public area. These are the Announcements,
(which is read only), and the Troubleshooting Forums. The troubleshooting
forum is moderated for non User Group users and is intended to be
an area when any computer related problems can be posted. To check

now available to everyone
The archive
of all our magazine articles is now available to everyone from every
page and the log-in page has been removed. The page has also been
altered to catalogue the articles into various categories to make
it easier to browse. The latest articles are still listed at the top
of the page with the date that they were posted.
