Apple Silicon MacBooks – will they get 5G cellular ?
As Apple moves to Apple Silicon Macs, it may finally be time for the MacBooks to get 5G cellular on an e-sim to allow people to connect to the internet without needing WiFi.
As Apple have already bought Intel’s cellular division out last year, it is time that people get connected even if they don’t have internet at home, like my mother in law’s house in the Waikato.
It would also help those who commute on public transport, or those who would use their MacBook outdoors on a fine day, or in a café.
Of course, this would be excellent with the Apple Silicon Mac compatibility with iPad and iPhone apps working with the fixed keyboard and trackpad.
With an e-sim, it would not require a physical SIM card slot, and would be easy to change cellular networks.
As we have seen already on iPad, cellular adds just a couple of hundred dollars, which we expect to be less than what Apple will save on the cost of the new Apple Silicon processors compared to Intel; this may permit all new Apple Silicon MacBooks to include 5G cellular as a standard feature and still be cheaper than comparable Intel MacBook models.

It turns out this speculation is perhaps too early, and might be something for 2021 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon.
